Benefits of Survival Gear and Skills
In the event of an apocalypse, you should have the skills and gear to stay alive. However, having the right gear and skills is not only necessary during an apocalypse. You may find yourself in a number of situations where you will need to save yourself. For example, you may have gone camping and get attacked by wild animals. Sometimes, you may have to stay alive with limited supplies of water and food in a harsh environment, such as a desert.
Regardless of the situation you are facing, there are a number of skills and outdoor survival gear you will need to stay alive.
Some survival scenarios could force you into a position of defending yourself, your home and your family. To defend yourself, it is important to have a good offense. Homes make poor defenses. The defenses are usually weak because there are multiple entries in and out. To make your home a good defense base, there should only be one entry and exit point. One of the ways you can secure your home is by having long handled weapons or a gun rifle or gun pointing at the entry. You want a gun that won’t easily run out of bullets to be pointing at the entry. A good offense also means being creative about hiding. Dig a pit and cover it with wood and cover it with brush, dirt or whatever camouflage is at hand.

Have a Defendable Base
If you are stationary, follow the first tip above to make a defendable shelter. If you are in the woods moving, splaying a simple poncho or tarp over a tree will make a great shelter.
Check Your Mobility
Another important survival skills which many untrained overlook is mobility. You should know your area well. If you intend on staying in a certain area, make sure you have scouted for defense areas, identified weak spot areas and also locate game trails that could provide food options. To make it easy to navigate through the area, make sure your outdoor gear includes tools like penknives and compasses.
Sometimes, you may have no option but to cut through brush and scrubs to make your way out of an area. It is important to ensure the routes you will be using are safe and don’t have obstacles that could accidentally make you trip or fall. If you will be moving regularly, consider how fast you will be. Having a machete and a sturdy walking stick will come in handy in such situations.
Having a survival plan of escape is important, whether you find yourself stranded in the jungle or in unfamiliar territory.
